The Opioid Epidemic

Opioid use has reached epidemic proportions. 69,000 people die each year from opioid overdose in the US. People should have concern when they are prescribed opioids even in the short term. 78% of people prefer non opioid pain management for their pain. Physical therapy should be the number one source for pain relief. Direct physical therapy leads to better and cheaper recovery than those who go the medication route first.

Why We Hurt

Understanding the source of our pain, or continued pain, that limits function is important. There are primary sources of pain that limit us from sitting, walking, running, or any other activity. These sources change over time meaning people with chronic pain have a different pain response than someone with acute pain. These sources include nociceptive, nerve pain, and central pain. All 3 sources contribute to an individual cocktail that all contribute to your pain.

What Can Physical Therapy Do
